Alan Rawsthorne, 1905 – 1971 was a British composer.
He was born in Haslingden, Lancashire, and is buried in Thaxted churchyard. The portrait in bronze is in the National Portrait Gallery together with the death mask of Alan in plaster that Isabel Rawsthorne requested Noakes make. Note that Alan Rawsthorne had a death mask of Chopin in his work room.

Isabel Nicholas 1912 –1992), also known at various times as Isabel Delmer, Isabel Lambert, and Isabel Rawsthorne was a British painter, scenery and costume designer, and occasional artists’ model. During the Second World War she worked in black propaganda as part of the special operations executive of the British Intelligence. She was part of an artistic bohemian society that included Jacob Epstein, Alberto Giacometti and Francis Bacon.
