The studio
The studio at GT. Sampford built by William Sutton and Roy provided space to both work and display. Light could be regulated which allowed the variation in form to be accentuated.
Throughout his life, apart from bronze founders, he worked alone.

This figure is seminal in the beginning of Roy’s work which expresses the idea of simplifying the silhouette, viewing the work from one standpoint and emphasises a surface that relies on the direction of light.
